Hi all -- may be of interest here: I gave a keynote talk today at VMIL 2026 (a workshop at SPLASH 2026) on NightMonkey, the next-gen AOT JS-to-Wasm compiler I've been developing (that we will hopefully merge into StarlingMonkey).

For those who want to watch, I just posted a recording: https://vimeo.com/1234257957

And slides are here: https://cfallin.org/pubs/vmil2026_nightmonkey_slides.pdf

Great talk! Out of curiosity, do you foresee your slot allocation reordering would matter for merging into SpiderMonkey, given SpiderMonkey's invariant on existing tiers? I'm assuming the invariant isn't heavily relied upon.

Great question! I structured that particular feature as a generic hook in the engine plus the actual slot allocation logic in NightMonkey (separate repo) -- so it was at least designed to try to be palatable to upstream. The invariant is suprisingly not used in that many places and I was able to generalize sufficiently to make this work.
