I'll note that the automated release process for {12,11,10}.0.2 all failed due to the test failure that this is fixing. The corresponding PRs here all have the magical
[automatically-tag-and-release-this-commit]string which means that the release process will be restarted upon merging these commits.

Emulated tests are failing quite a lot on CI for this and the 11/10 backports too. I'm not sure why. I recall these being flaky a few months ago. I'm going to shoot into the dark and pray that the update to QEMU 8.0.4 in CI fixes things, so I've backported that CI commit here too (and on https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wasmtime/pull/7039)
