I'm going to close this because I don't think there's an easy way to do this which achieves other maintainability goals, e.g. keeping tests low-overhead to write as well as ensuring that wasmtime doesn't get built as a dylib on crates.io. If there is a solution to this though I think it's best to review through a PR.
