Update four and a half years later:

• This is still a promising idea.

• We would need to either

  1. support both Cranelift and Winch generating initialization functions, or
  2. we would need to have Winch use its inner Cranelift compiler that it uses for trampolines to compile this initialization function, or
  3. we would need to keep the Rust implementation for Winch.

  I'm partial to (ii) since that seems to give us the least amount of moving parts to maintain.
