Makes sense, SIMD stays enabled by default and build_compiler now only errors when the compiler can't do it, with its signature unchanged. The docs say it has to be combined with has_v or disabled, and the riscv64 disas tests turn SIMD off in the harness: https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wasmtime/commit/c1c52260d277ded405f3f9264a0c02ee73b766c3

If you'd rather have that in the test files, I can put the flags in make-load-store-tests.sh and the other riscv64 disas tests instead.

You were right, it's from this change. checks_incompatible_target builds an engine for the host's triple with an unknown OS, which under QEMU is a riscv64 target without has_v, so Engine::new now fails on the SIMD check before the mismatch error it looks for. The test turns off SIMD and relaxed SIMD for its engines: https://github.com/bytecodealliance/wasmtime/commit/bd2961f13a6329934957bbbf3e6adcc7bb4f2211
