what's the status of https://wasi.dev/polyfill/ ?
it isn't obvious to me how to use it.

It is not currently maintained. There are other wasi polyfills for the browser which are easier to use by now, such as https://github.com/bjorn3/browser_wasi_shim

I've now updated the page to explain that the old polyfill is no longer maintained.
