hey there, I just noticed that the most recent version of 0.49.0 (https://github.com/CraneStation/cranelift/commit/79dcbb138e51372faefa9ac6eaf0fee3901366b7) doesn't build, unless there's an internet connection and the user is allowed to access some server at gimli-rs

I haven't yet found out where this was introduced, and why. But I would like to point out that this is a very distro unfriendly behavior, making the job of packaging cranelift difficult or impossible, depending on how strict the individual distro's policies are in regard of network sandboxing for root.

Also I think firefox pulls in certain parts of your tree, so this might blow up at their end too.
