Zooming out I'm trying to use this lib https://github.com/DelphinusLab/zkWasm which uses wamsi for execution traces, unfortunately wasmi doesn't support component model yet

I don't know that much about wasmi, but it looks like they're using https://github.com/paritytech/wasmi/discussions as the place to have general development discussions. That project is independent of Wasmtime and I'm not sure if anyone here will be able to help you with your question.
