Is it an intentional policy decision to prevent true deletion of messages? You can "soft delete" which is effectively the same as editing your message to "(deleted)" but the original message is retained in the edit history. This seems like somewhat of a liability for accidental pasting / sending messages to the wrong recipients.
In the web version you should be able to delete messages while you can edit them. After the edit limit expired, you can't delete them anymore.
Actually, it looks like this zulip instance is indeed configured to not allow deletion.
The rust-lang instance does allow deletion.
